With over 100 needs throughout the year, volunteers are crucial to the success of our programs. GCCS is currently seeking people to help us achieve our mission and support local area seniors. Here is how you can help:

  • Become a Hostess/Receptionist at the Gold Country Senior Café. Greet and seat our senior guests with a friendly smile, assist with serving meals in the dining room, answer phones  and provide program information. Must be available one day per week from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Currently we need assistance to fill in when our regular volunteer will be absent. If interested, please call Nicole Grimes at 615-4541. Click here for full volunteer job description.
  • Be a Server at the Gold Country Senior Café to assist our guests as they enjoy a hot meal. All you need is a steady hand and a welcoming smile. Must be available at least one weekday each, between 1-2 hours per day. Currently we need assistance on Tuesdays. If interested, please call Nicole Grimes at 615-4541. Click here for full volunteer job description.
  • Help out our dedicated team of drivers for the Meals on Wheels program by becoming a Delivery Driver. All it takes is a few hours (10:30am to 1:00pm) one day a week, a car, sense of direction and a friendly smile to brighten someone's day. We are currently needing substitute drivers. A substitute driver fills in for a regular driver who gets ill or is going on vacation. If interested, please call Charity Bryson at 273-4961. Click here for full volunteer job description.
  • Be a part of our Senior Firewood Program which provides firewood to low-income seniors. There are three positions in this program, and each role needs more volunteers:
  1. Wood Cutters - As part of the Senior Firewood Program Wood Cutting Team you will work with others to cut felled trees into rounds, load the rounds into trucks and trailers and deliver the wood to one of our wood storage yards. This team turns unwanted trees from private property into wood heat. When the wood yards are full, the team often assists with wood splitting or delivery. Great group of folks who like to work with their hands to help others. The team does not work in inclement or extremely hot/dry weather. Days needed are Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:00am to 12:00pm.
  2. Wood Splitters - As part of the Senior Firewood Program Wood Splitting Team you will work in groups of 3 to split firewood. The team typically works one day a week and does not work in inclement weather. GCCS provides the team with a commercial grade hydraulic wood splitter which the team must maintain (gas/oil/grease). The splitting team works on Thursday mornings from 8:00am to 12:00pm.
  3. Wood Delivery Drivers - We are looking for friendly folks with strong backs to load and deliver firewood to our senior clientele. As a member of the Senior Firewood Program Delivery Team, you will work with others and use your personal vehicle to help others keep warm this winter. We will also ask you to help with our big delivery events that are held each Fall. This team is quickly dwindling while the need to stay warm remains strong. GCCS offers a mileage reimbursement of $0.32/mi, if requested. Days and times needed vary based on the needs of our clients. Shifts range from 2 to 4 hours per week.

A wonderful benefit of volunteering with this program is the camaraderie of working with like-minded people out in nature who are rewarded by helping others. If interested, please call Nicole Grimes at 615-4541.
