A Message From Our Executive Director... January 2014
Such a difficult year and yet more reasons to be thankful for than ever… Sure, our federal funding was sequestered and impacted by the government shutdown, but local supporters stepped up and made sure our programs like Meals on Wheels stayed on the road.
We are grateful to our media partners like KNCO and The Union who have shared our story and made the community aware of our needs. We a grateful to the Nevada County Supervisors who offered emergency funding to ensure our vital services would not be interrupted. We applaud the Nevada County Women’s Republican Federation and the Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills for each adopting a Meals on Wheels route. The list goes on….
UPS delivered firewood to help us heat the homes of low income seniors. Plan It Solar and the Grass Valley Pickleball Club provided Holiday Meals to those without a place to go. Krista Putnam and the GV Host Lions Club for collaborating on a pet food grant to help keep seniors and their pets together. United Way encouraged corporate giving and volunteerism that made so many good things possible.
The list of private donors who responded to our requests was greater than ever such that opening the mail actually brightened my day. But with all there is to be thankful for I simply cannot find the words to show my appreciation and admiration for the 104 volunteers who we rely on to make it all happen. GCCS volunteers have hearts as big as Texas and a passion to serve that comes from deep within. Our volunteers are your friends, relatives and neighbors and they are the reason Nevada County is such a wonderful place to live.
Thank you Nevada County and Happy Holidays!
Sandy "Jake" Jacobson
